Our Wish Kid's Story

Lane, was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma at age 7. This is the most common malignant central nervous system tumor of childhood. It accounts for 15-20 percent of pediatric brain tumors. It took a while for Lane to be well enough for his wish, and looking forward to it was an important part of his recovery.

Lane is a self-described “Spider Fanatic,” so imagine his excitedment when, just after his 10th birthday, Lane got his One True Wish: to go to Spider Pavillion at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles! Lane and his family flew to LA and were given four-star treatment as they visited Universal Studios and other attractions.

On Lane’s big day, he got a private tour of the Spider Pavilion, a special treat that had never been done before. His tour guide, Brent, sat on the floor with Lane and showed him many spiders.  He told him about each spider and taught him how to hold them (photos 1 & 2).  From there the family went outside to the Spider Exhibit.  It was a garden full of spider webs and spiders.  Lane had fun finding the spiders.  He also fed a spider a butterfly and was amazed at how the spider grabbed the food (photo 3).  To end the visit, Brent gave Lane and his siblings stuffed spiders and gave Lane a large spider puppet (photo 4).  He also gave him a preserved spider and a book about spiders with beautiful illustrations.  When they arrived back at their hotel, Lane’s Mom asked if his wish was as fun as he thought it would be and he said "YES!"

Lane and his family live in Medford, but if they could be here right now they would say a big THANK YOU to BAUMAN’S FARM AND GARDEN for making Lane’s wish come true!
